Police in the Belarusian capital, Minsk, detained five activists of the Youth Front movement today, RFE/RL’s Belarusian Service reports.

The activists staged a protest in front of the building housing the president's office. They carried a big sign saying, "No to Political Terror!"

Police and security officers allowed the activists to enter the building, where they handed officials a petition demanding a stop to political persecutions in the country.

They were then detained and brought to the police department in Minsk's Lenin district.

The Youth Front is an unregistered movement uniting young Belarusian activists.
