A local deputy prosecutor has been shot dead in Russia's republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, the latest victim of ongoing violence in the North Caucasus.
The Russian Prosecutor-General's Office says two unidentified gunmen shot the official several times at point-blank range late on May 20, killing him on the spot.
The killing came just one day after a bomb attack on a police station in the republic's main city, Nalchik, in which no one was hurt.
Kabardino-Balkaria lies close to the volatile republics of Chechnya, Daghestan, and Ingushetia, where authorities are battling a Muslim insurgency.
