The militant Basque separatist group ETA has announced that it will forsake violence in the interest of putting "in motion a democratic process" in Spain.
The cease-fire announcement was made in a video obtained from ETA and broadcast today by the BBC.
It follows reports by Spanish media on September 3 that the group's political wing had called for a cease-fire.
ETA, which has been weakened by many recent arrests of its members, has not carried out significant attacks for more than a year.
The group is listed as a terrorist organization by the European Union and the United States.
