Report: Iran Detains Filmmaker

Iran today detained a documentary filmmaker for "insulting officials" of the Islamic Republic.

The ISNA news agency reported that Mohammad Nurizad "was summoned and after arraignment...bail was set for him but since he couldn't afford it, he was sent to prison."

Nurizad has made documentaries and feature films on the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, mosques, and the Iran-Iraq War of 1980-1988.

Recently, Nurizad has written to Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, criticizing the management of the country, especially after its disputed June presidential election.
