U.S. military officials say NATO forces in Afghanistan will begin their offensive against the Taliban stronghold of Kandahar in June.
A senior military official speaking on condition of anonymity was quoted as saying the aim is to rid the southern Afghan city of Taliban forces before the Muslim holy month of Ramadan begins in August.
NATO has already announced plans to begin operations against the insurgent stronghold this summer, but without giving specific dates.
Earlier this year, NATO and U.S. forces launched a major offensive against the militants in Helmand Province, near Kandahar.
