Russian Army Officer Sentenced For Spying For Georgia

ROSTOV-ON-DON -- The Rostov Military District Court in Russia has sentenced a colonel of the Russian Army to six years of jail for espionage, RFE/RL’s Russian Service reports.

Colonel Mikhail Khachidze was found guilty of handing classified data to Georgia's secret services in exchange for $ 2,000.

He was detained in August last year in the wake of the Russian-Georgian military conflict over Georgia's breakaway republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
