ORENBURG, Russia -- A local education official in Russia's Orenburg Oblast has been jailed for negligence in connection with the fatal collapse of a school wall, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.
The head of the Belyayev district's education department, Nina Ikhneva, was sentenced to 18 months in jail.
She is the second education official to have been sentenced to a jail term in connection with the collapse of a wall at a local school in the town of Belyayevka that killed five schoolgirls in October 2008.
The school's director, Larisa Tsepovyaz, was sentenced to two years in prison in January.
