CHELYABINSK, Russia -- A man wanted by Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) for alleged extremist acts has been apprehended in Chelyabinsk Oblast near the republic of Bashkortostan, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.
FSB officials said that Bashir Pliev is facing charges of setting up an extremist group in Bashkortostan.
Pliev, also known as Emir Bashkirsky, is said to be originally from Russia's North Caucasus republic of Ingushetia.
Police mounted a massive search in Oktyabrsky on March 27-28 and apprehended eight men subsequently identified as members of a religious extremist group, the Russian daily "Kommersant" reported on March 29.
Pliyev, 44, and another member of the group escaped arrest, the paper added.
