Russian Policeman Sentenced For Killing Teenager

KYZYL, Russia -- A policeman in the Russian republic of Tuva was sentenced today to 15 months in a labor camp for killing a teenager, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.

The Investigative Committee of the local Prosecutor-General's Office said the former policeman, Borbak-ool Bair, was found guilty of "unintentional manslaughter."

In October, police in the Tuvan capital Kyzyl stopped a car and asked the 17-year-old driver for his identification. He tried to drive away and Bair shot him, wounding the driver and a female passenger.

The driver later died in a hospital.
