VLADIVOSTOK, Russia -- Two high-ranking police officers in the Russian far eastern city of Vladivostok have been jailed for accepting bribes, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.
Colonel Eduard Kanunnikov, the chief of criminal police in Vladivostok's Pervomai district's Interior Ministry branch, and Dmitry Skuyev, the branch's special agent for fighting the drug trade, were sentenced to four and five years in prison, respectively.
Vladivostok police spokeswoman Avrora Rimskaya told RFE/RL that Skuyev received 150,000 rubles (more than $5,000) from a relative of a suspect allegedly involved in the drug trade, whom he freed from custody.
She said that half of the bribe he received was given to his supervisor, Kanunnikov.
