AZOV, Russia -- Vandals damaged the graves of 33 World War II veterans in the city of Azov in Russia's Rostov Oblast on February 18, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.
Some of the gravestones were practically demolished. The cemetery administration called the police, who have opened an investigation.
Relatives of the veterans have not been allowed to begin repairing the damaged graves. The cemetery caretakers have said they may do so in spring after the snow melts.
