Officials say a 12-year-old boy and 6-year-old girl have been beheaded in two separate incidents in Afghanistan.
A spokesman for the provincial governor said the boy was kidnapped and killed in southern Kandahar Province on August 29, his severed head placed near his body.
The brother of the boy was a member of the local anti-Taliban militia.
A Taliban spokesman, however, denied involvement.
Separately, police in the eastern Kapisa Province said a 6-year-old girl was beheaded on August 30.
The police said they were not sure if the girl was beheaded by her family or by the Taliban.
The murders follow the shooting or beheading of 17 young people attending a party in southern Helmand Province this week.
The Taliban has denied any involvement in that incident as well.
