An Afghan government delegation is expected to meet with representatives of the Taliban over the next several days in Qatar.
Attaullah Ludin, the deputy chief of Afghanistan's High Peace Council (AHPC), said on May 1 that the 20-member delegation will meet Taliban representatives for "open discussions."
Ludin said the talks would take place on May 3 and 4.
The AHPC is a presidential body tasked with reaching out to the militants in a bid to bring a negotiated end to the war.
A Taliban official in Qatar also said a meeting was set for the next few days with Afghan officials as well as Pakistani officials.
Taliban representatives have previously cast doubt on the possibility of talks, saying they still opposed negotiations.
