Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai says initial progress in his country was undermined by the United States ignoring the problem of the Taliban using Pakistan as a ''sanctuary,'' from which to launch attacks in Afghanistan. In an exclusive interview with RFE/RL in which he looked back on his tumultuous years in office, Karzai described his relationship with the United States as ''tense.'' He said U.S. officials would brief him on Taliban bases in Pakistan but refuse to take action. (RFE/RL)
