Officials in Afghanistan say seven people, including a provincial judge, have been killed in two separate attacks.
Police spokesman Hazrat Mashreqiwal said a bombing in the eastern city of Jalalabad early on January 7 killed Mohammad-ul Hassan, who served as a judge in the neighboring Laghman Province, and wounded two of his children.
A bomb was apparently attached to the judge's car by a passing vehicle in what Jalalabad police said was a well-planned attack.
In northern Baghlan Province, police spokesman Jawed Basharat said six people working on a road project were killed.
He said one other person was wounded and two were missing after the attack.
No one immediately claimed responsibility for either attack.
Taliban militants have stepped up attacks in Afghanistan, where U.S. and NATO forces formally ended their combat mission at the end of last year, leaving a reduced presence of some 13,000 troops.
