Afghan Election Official Survives Suicide Attack

An Afghan election commission official has survived a suicide bomb attack in the capital of Kabul.

The Independent Election Commission identified the target of the November 28 attack was Hawliya Rodwal, its Kabul provincial director.

A spokesman said one of Rodwal's security guards was killed and his driver was wounded.

He said a number of homes were damaged in the attack, which took place in a residential neighborhood.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Taliban is opposed to elections and has targeted the commission in the past.

The incident comes after a lull of more than a month in Taliban attacks in heavily-guarded Kabul following a series of bombings in the city in August.
