Afghan President Hamid Karzai says his country's presidential election, set for 2014, will be held on time.
Karzai told a press conference in Kabul on October 3 that the election "will definitely happen," saying that his term, "if prolonged by even a day, will be seen as illegitimate."
Karzai denied speculation that he would seek to amend the constitution to allow himself to stay in office.
On the subject of terrorism, he accused Western governments of having a double standard.
The Afghan president said international forces came to Afghanistan to fight terror, but they were not doing enough to fight the roots of terror outside his country.
Karzai, Afghanistan's only elected head of state since the 2001 U.S.-led invasion, was reelected in a flawed 2009 election.
