Afghanistan Hosts First-Ever Marathon

Defying increased attacks by the Taliban, Afghanistan has held its first ever international marathon. The event took place in Bamiyan Province, a largely peaceful area known for the giant Buddha statues destroyed by the Taliban in 2001. Local girls ran a 10-kilometer course, while more than 60 men and women ran in the full-length adult race -- which was won by British runner Keith MacIntosh. (RFE/RL's Radio Free Afghanistan)
