Pakistani and Afghan officials say at least five people were killed by gunmen in a remote region along their shared border.
Officials from the two neighboring countries made conflicting claims about where the incident happened on September 18.
Officials in the Zhob district of Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan Province say men in Afghan military uniforms killed at least five civilians near the village of Qamar Din Karez.
They said more villagers were also injured in the incident.
Pakistani authorities were trying to determine the identity of the attackers.
The police chief of Afghanistan's Paktika Province, however, said the victims were Taliban killed by Afghan troops.
Daulat Khan Zadran said that bodies of three of the slain men were still in Afghanistan.
