Reports from northeastern Afghanistan say eight Afghan police were killed overnight during a four-hour battle against Taliban militants who attacked their hilltop post.
Abdul Maroof Rasekh, a spokesman for Badakhshan's provincial governor, says militants stormed the post in the province's Warduj district late on May 29.
He said two Taliban were killed in the fighting, while one police officer remains missing.
In a separate incident, three Afghan government employees were reported killed by a roadside bomb on May 30 while traveling to work in the eastern province of Nangarhar.
In another incident, NATO says a soldier serving with the international coalition was killed by a homemade bomb in southern Afghanistan.
