An Afghan official says a female UN worker has been shot dead by gunmen in the city of Kandahar.
A spokesman for the provincial governor of Kandahar Province said on October 12 that Toopakai Olfat -- an Afghan national -- was on her way home from the office when two gunmen on a motorcycle shot and killed her.
The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan confirmed Olfat's death in a statement, saying it was "angered by the assassination of a staff member."
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the killing.
