Hundreds of protesters rallied in Afghanistan's capital today to denounce the assassination of former President Burhanuddin Rabbani.

Angry, mainly Tajik supporters shouted "Death to Pakistan" and "Death to the Taliban."

Rabbani, an ethnic Tajik, was the head of a government council leading efforts to make peace with Taliban-led insurgents.

He was killed by an assassin in his Kabul home last week.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.

On September 26, Afghanistan's National Directorate of Security said it had arrested a key figure in the assassination and suggested the Taliban's senior leadership may have been involved.
