Yemeni officials say an airstrike has killed a top Al-Qaeda leader who was wanted for the 2000 bombing of the U.S. Navy destroyer, the "USS Cole."
The airstrike resembled earlier U.S. drone attacks, but the United States did not immediately confirm it.
A local official, Abu Bakr bin Farid, said Fahd al-Quso was killed on May 6 along with an aide in an airstrike in the southern Shabwa province.
The October 2000 attack on the "USS Cole" in Yemen's port of Aden killed 17 sailors and wounded 40.
