Al-Qaeda's branch in Iraq has claimed responsibility for a spate of bomb attacks across the country the previous day that killed more than 30 people and injured more than 100.
The Islamic State of Iraq said in a statement posted to its website on April 20 that it detonated 14 bombs in 10 Iraqi cities the previous day in what it says is "the beginning" of a prolonged series of attacks.
It was the deadliest day in Iraq since March 20, when a series of shootings and bombings, also claimed by the Islamic State of Iraq, killed 50 people and injured 255.
