Why Would Islamic State Attack Russia?

Analysts told RFE/RL that they believe an affiliate of the Islamic State militant group, Islamic State-Khorasan, is the most likely perpetrator of an attack on an entertainment center near Moscow and that extremists saw an opportunity with Russia overstretched by its operations abroad. At least 130 people died after men attacked the venue with automatic weapons and explosives.
