A public-opinion poll in Russia has found that anti-American sentiment has reached its highest point there since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.

The poll was released on June 5 by the Levada Center.

Forty percent of respondents said their opinion about the United States was "generally negative," while 31 percent said it was "very negative."

In a similar poll in late 1991, 4 percent of respondents described their opinion about the United States as "generally negative" and 2 percent as "very negative."

The Levada Center released a poll last month showing that the Russians’ opinion about the European Union has also worsened over the last 20 years.
