The Saryarqa District Court in Astana has ruled that an anti-Islam film that sparked violent demonstrations around the world is extremist and cannot be shown in Kazakhstan.
The ruling was made after the Astana City prosecutor requested a ban on the U.S.-made film, "Innocence of Muslims."
Kazakhstan’s Agency for Religious Issues hailed the court's ruling, saying the film "truly insults Muslims."
The privately produced film mocks the Prophet Muhammad, portraying him as a womanizer and child molester.
It has been banned in several other countries including Russia.
