One Killed, Two Wounded In Nagorno-Karabakh Clashes

The Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan’s separatist Nagorno-Karabakh region said that one of its soldiers was killed and two wounded in shootouts with Azerbaijani forces overnight.

The statement says the incident occurred when “Azerbaijani troops attempted to enter the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh.”

Baku considers Nagorno-Karabakh -- an ethnic Armenian separatist enclave -- its territory.

Several incidents have been reported along the Azerbaijani-Armenian border since June 4, where at least three Armenian and five Azerbaijani soldiers were killed.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who visited Armenia on June 4, said the Yerevan-Baku standoff could lead to a "much broader conflict."

Clinton, who is currently in Baku, is to visit Turkey on June 7.
