Armenia’s population is just below 3 million people, data from the census conducted in October shows. That amounts to some 90,000 fewer people than in 2011, when the previous census was conducted. The total figure of 2,928,914 includes people who have been absent from the country for up to a year. The number of people physically residing in Armenia at the time of the census was 233,000 fewer than in 2011. It was the first time the Caucasus country's population dropped below 3 million since gaining independence in 1991. The census was the third since 1991.
