Armenian Prosecutor Concerned Over High-Profile Robberies

Armenian Prosecutor-General Aghvan Hovsepian

YEREVAN -- Armenian Prosecutor-General Aghvan Hovsepian has expressed concern over a series of high-profile robberies in Yerevan, RFE/RL's Armenian Service reports.

On August 21, masked assailants broke into the home of former parliament deputy Napoleon Azizian, severely beat him and members of his family, tied them up, and escaped with cash and valuables worth some $300,000.

It was the fifth such armed robbery by masked assailants in Yerevan in recent months.

Hovsepian told a press conference today all five were being investigated as a single case of banditry, as it's clear that they were committed by either the same people or linked groups.
