A painting of Elvis Presley by the late Andy Warhol sold for $37 million at Sotheby's auction house in New York on May 9, while works by Roy Lichtenstein and Francis Bacon each sold for $44.8 million -- all record auction prices for the artists.
The Warhol painting, titled "Double Elvis," was a silver silkscreen image depicting the rock singer as a cowboy.
It was one in a series of 22 that Warhol created featuring Elvis Presley.
Lichtenstein's work, "Sleeping Girl," depicts a woman with closed eyes and flowing blonde hair.
Bacon's work, titled "Figure Writing Reflected in Mirror," depicts the artist and his partner, George Dyer, writing at a table.
The names of the buyers were not released.
The sales follow an auction at Sotheby's last week in which Edvard Munch's "The Scream" sold for $119.9 million -- making it the most expensive artwork ever sold at auction.
