At Least One Killed In Sectarian Violence At Kabul University

Clashes between Shi'ite and Sunni students at Kabul University have left at least one person dead and two others wounded.

Some reports say fighting started on November 24 when Shi'as were blocked from commemorating their Ashura holiday inside a mosque on the campus.

Damage was reported to buildings at the university.

Following the violence, the Higher Education Ministry announced the closure of all universities for 10 days.

Ashura commemorates the seventh-century death of Imam Hussein, the Prophet Muhammad's grandson.
