At Least 28 Civilians Reported Killed In Recent Syria Violence

Thousands of Syrians have reportedly been killed since antiregime protests began in March.

Syrian activists say at least 28 civilians were reported killed in Syria on November 22 as a key UN committee condemned President Bashar al-Assad's brutal crackdown on protesters against his regime.

Activists said the violence occurred in the central cities of Hama and Homs, the eastern city of Deir el-Zour, and elsewhere.

On November 22, the UN General Assembly's human rights committee overwhelmingly approved a resolution condemning human rights violations by Assad's regime and called for an immediate end to the violence.

The resolution, which will now be sent to the General Assembly for a final vote, is the latest development in a wave of international pressure on al-Assad..

The Syrian ambassador to the UN, Bashar Ja'afari accused Britain, France and Germany who sponsored the resolution of "waging a media, political and diplomatic war against Syria."

The UN says more than 3,500 people have been killed in a security crackdown since protests against Assad's regime began in mid-March.
