Bomb, Gun Attack Apparently Targets Christians In Northern Nigeria

In Nigeria, there are reports of dead and wounded following a bomb and gun attack at a university in Kano, the largest city in Nigeria’s mainly Muslim north.

Reports say the attack appears to have targeted facilities that were being used by Christian worshippers.

An AFP news agency report, quoting witnesses, said that up to 20 people may have been killed, while a Reuters report said 15 may have been killed and others wounded. No official casualty tally was immediately available.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

The Islamist sect Boko Haram has claimed responsibility for earlier similar attacks targeting Christians and others that have killed hundreds.

Oil-producing Nigeria, Africa's most populous nation, is roughly divided between a mainly Muslim north and predominantly Christian south.
