An official in Afghanistan says gunmen have killed nine people in an attack on a wedding party in eastern Afghanistan.
A spokesman in the Nangarhar Province is quoted by AP as saying the June 8 attack occurred in the remote Dur Baba district.
The spokesman, Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, said the attackers opened fire on a house where family members were celebrating. He said the attackers also set fire to the house and a car.
There has been no immediate claim of responsibility, and authorities are investigating.
The government spokesman identified the cousin of the groom as being the chief administrator for the Dur Baba district, suggesting a possible political motive for the attack.
