Attacks Kill At Least 29 Across Iraq

Iraqi officials said bombings and shootings have killed at least 29 people, amid Iraq's worst protracted period of unrest since 2008.

In the deadliest attack, a suicide bomber rammed his explosive-packed vehicle into a security checkpoint in the northeast suburb of Baghdad, killing nine people.

Attacks in Baquba, Mosul, and Tikrit left at least eight others dead.

Gunmen also attacked an army post in Tarmiyah, north of Baghdad, killing eight soldiers.

A roadside bomb exploded as the convoy of a Sunni lawmaker was passing through Baghdad, killing two of his bodyguards.

Two other people were killed in bombings at Baghdad markets.

The violence comes just weeks before Iraq is due to hold its first national elections since 2010.

The vote was thrown into disarray earlier when the entire election commission resigned over political interference.
