Azerbaijani Rock Singer Freed After 10 Days In Jail For Rally Remarks

The lead singer of an Azerbaijani rock band jailed for insulting the mother of President Ilham Aliyev has been released after 10 days in custody.

Camal Ali, from the band Bulistan, was incarcerated on the outskirts of Baku after reportedly using profanity in reference to the president's mother during an opposition youth rally.

Also detained in the incident was the band's bass player, Natiq Kamilov, and the event's organizer, Etibar Salmanli.

The three were sentenced to up to 10 days in prison on charges of hooliganism.

Kamilov and Salmanli were released last week.

Ali said he was "subjected to physical pressure" while in custody by "some special people who came to the police station" and told the singer that he "was wrong."
