Belarus's authoritarian ruler, Alyaksandr Lukashenka, has signed a law that allows the confiscation of property from citizens and companies for "unfriendly actions against Belarus." The law appeared on the country's online registry of legal actions in the early hours of January 6. The bill, approved by Belarusian lawmakers last month, says it "protects the national interests of Belarus" and that its implementation cannot be affected by international court decisions.
