Belarus Court Sentences Son Of Self-Exiled Belarusian Opposition Politician To More Than Three Years In Prison

Artsyom Lyabedzka, the son of a member of Belarus's government in exile, was arrested in March and sentenced to 15 days in jail and later remanded in custody.

The Minsk City Court on August 24 sentenced Artsyom Lyabedzka, the son of self-exiled Belarusian opposition politician Anatol Lyabedzka, to 3 1/2 years in prison on a charge of financing an extremist group. Lyabedzka, 37, was arrested in March and sentenced to 15 days in jail and later remanded in custody. Lyabedzka rejects the charge.
