Belarus's lower legislative chamber on January 25 voted to terminate a 2010 intergovernmental agreement with France on cooperation in the areas of culture, education, science and technology, and mass media, state media reported. Another report said it had also voted to withdraw from a 2016 agreement with neighboring Poland on cooperation in education. France, Poland, and other Western states have imposed sanctions since Belarus's widely criticized 2020 presidential election and the subsequent crackdown on civil society.
