Blast At Russian Ammunition Depot Kills Six

The explosion follows two similar incidents elsewhere in Russia this summer.

An explosion has ripped through an ammunition storage depot in southern Russia, killing six soldiers and wounding 12.

Emergency Ministry spokesman Oleg Ivanov said the blast occurred on August 23 as the soldiers were disposing of old munitions on the Ashuluk base in the Astrakhan region.

The explosion followed two major fires at ammunition depots elsewhere in Russia this summer which caused fires, extensive damage, and numerous injuries.
