Bolshoi Ends Relationship With Star Dancer

Nikolai Tsiskaridze

Moscow's Bolshoi Theater will not renew the contract of one of its star dancers, Nikolai Tsiskaridze.

A spokeswoman for the theater confirmed on Rossiya 24 television that Tsiskardize's contract will expire on June 30.

Tsiskaridze, 39, told NTV on June 9 that he does not understand clearly what his status is.

Tsiskaridze joined the Bolshoi in 1992 and made headlines after Bolshoi artistic director Sergei Filin was severely injured in an acid attack in January.

Bolshoi dancer Pavel Dmitrichenko has been charged with ordering the attack on Filin.

Tsiskaridze gave interviews in which he questioned whether the attack was geniune and called on the entire Bolshoi management to resign.

Tsiskaridze has long expressed the hope he would be given a Bolshoi management post after his career as a dancer ends.
