YEKATERINBURG, Russia -- The 41-year-old man sentenced for his involvement in 2009 "Nevsky Express" train bombing in Russia's western Tver Oblast has died in prison.
The Federal Service of Correctional Institutions (Gufsin) in Yekaterinburg said on July 1 that Tarkhan Kartoev died of heart failure at a labor camp in Sverdlovsk Oblast two days earlier.
Kartoev and nine other men from Russia's volatile North Caucasus republic of Ingushetia were sentenced to prison terms between seven years and life in May 2012.
They were found guilty of organizing a terrorist group, premeditated murder, and illegal weapons and explosives possession and use.
The bombing of the "Nevsky Express," which runs between Moscow and St. Petersburg, killed 27 people and injured 150 others.
