International Envoy To Bosnia Imposes Measures To Improve Election Integrity

The international envoy to Bosnia-Herzegovina imposed technical changes to the election law on March 26 that he said were meant to strengthen electoral integrity. Christian Schmidt said the goal was to restore voter trust through electronic scanning, increased security in the handling of election materials, and voter identification, as well as making election committees more professional. Schmidt said he was taking the steps to support Bosnia "on its way to the European Union” and “for the citizens of this country.” Former elections have been marred by reports of irregularities and fraud, and international observers have been urging reforms.
