A controversial memorial service marking the “Day of Russian Volunteers” was held on April 12 in the small town of Visegrad in eastern Bosnia, honoring Russians who died fighting on the side of Bosnian Serbs in the 1992-1995 Bosnian War. According to the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, Visegrad was subjected to "one of the most extensive and ruthless campaigns of ethnic cleansing" during the Bosnian conflict. The State Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation into the event commemorating Russian volunteers in 2021, but the case did not move forward.
