Australian Driver Ricciardo Wins Azerbaijan Grand Prix

Daniel Ricciardo celebrates after winning the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on June 25.

Daniel Ricciardo of the Red Bull team won the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, run through the streets of Baku, on June 25.

Valtteri Bottas of the Mercedes team finished second after overcoming a collision with Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen on the first lap. Lance Stroll, a 19-year-old Canadian, came in third for the Williams team.

Formula One championship leader Sebastian Vettel finished fourth after being penalized for dangerous driving after swerving into rival Lewis Hamilton, who came in fifth.

Hamilton accused Vettel of disgracing himself and deliberately driving into his car.

"Deliberately driving into another driver and getting away pretty much scot-free, as he still came fourth, I think that's a disgrace. I think he disgraced himself today," Hamilton said.

Vettel expressed anger over the penalty.

"In the end, I don't agree with the penalty that I got, because if you penalize me then you should penalize us both because that was not the way to do it," Vettel said.

Vettel accused Hamilton of deliberately slowing his car so that Vettel hit him from behind.

The race was the second Formula One event at the Baku City Circuit in the Azerbaijani capital. The first race at the circuit last year was called the European Grand Prix.
