Britain Hopes To Reopen Tehran Embassy By Year-End

Britain says it is hoping to reopen its embassy in Tehran by the end of the year following a nuclear deal between Iran and major world powers.

Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond told parliament on July 15 that the reopening was dependent on resolving some technical issues, without elaborating.

Diplomatic relations were suspended and the embassy was closed after Iranian demonstrators stormed the mission in November 2011.

London said in June 2014 that it intended to reopen its embassy in Tehran "within months."

Hammond also told lawmakers that he was heading to Israel later on July 15 to “convey our message about this deal directly."

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called the agreement to curb Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief "a bad mistake of historic proportions."
