British Government Slashes Aid To 16 Nations

British Prime Minister David Cameron

The British government has said it will stop funding 16 countries and four United Nations' agencies in order to focus its overseas aid budget to better help poor and conflict-ridden countries.

The government said it will phase out aid programs by 2016 to 16 countries considered no longer to need it.

They include China, Russia, Vietnam, Moldova, Cameroon, Kosovo, Iraq and Serbia.

The major overhaul of British aid policies follows a review of their effectiveness by Britain's Conservative-led coalition government.
