DUSHANBE -- The British Embassy in Tajikistan has issued a press release saying that the United Kingdom would soon open an embassy in Kyrgyzstan, RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service reports.
In the release issued on May 20, British Foreign Secretary William Hague stated that the new embassy in Bishkek will focus on political and developmental cooperation with Kyrgyz officials.
No date for the opening of an embassy in the Kyrgyz capital was given.
It said visa and other consular services for Kyrgyzstan will continue to be handled in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
The embassy will work closely with the Department for International Development's (DID) program for Central Asia, which totals some $22 million per year and is primarily geared toward Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
The DID's main office in Central Asia will continue to be in Dushanbe.
