The European Council has voted to admit Romania and Bulgaria to the free-travel Schengen Area beginning in March. Air and maritime border controls will be lifted on March 31, while land controls will be eliminated at a later date. Within the Schengen Area, people are allowed to travel, work, and live in another member country without visas or permits.
